This week, students dressed to the nines and packed into the Chapel to celebrate the conclusion of the fall season by recognizing athletes from afternoon programs. Five teams — cross country, mountain biking, field hockey, and boys and girls soccer — took the stage to honor outstanding athletes in each sport.
Dean of Afternoon and Athletic Programs Colleen Coyne began with opening remarks, and her words truly reflected what it means to be a Tilton Ram.
“Beyond the scores and the stats, what truly matters is the legacy of good character that each of you leaves behind,” said Coyne. Coaches distributed awards not only based on the level of success in their sport, but also for outstanding character displayed throughout the season.
After the hour ended, award-winning athletes stayed behind to take photos with their coaches, while the rest of the community strolled to the Masiello Dining Commons for a Thanksgiving-style formal dinner. Sitting as an advisory, students bonded while enjoying a delicious meal
After the formal dinner, faculty member Ms. Smith encouraged students to visit the Charles E. Tilton Mansion as a new art exhibit was unveiling in the art gallery that evening. Attendees took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the work of visiting artist Monica Côté, along with pieces created by a handful of Tilton students. Ms. Smith and Ms. Côté welcomed students into the space, offering desserts and refreshments to those in attendance.
This evening of celebration, community, and creativity united students and faculty, enhancing the strong bond that already exists. Tilton values the commitment to supporting community members across all aspects of life, from the athletic fields to the art studio.
To end the awards ceremony, Coyne put it best: “The way you treat others—with respect, compassion, and integrity—will always define you far more than any scoreboard ever could.”
