Head of School Derek Krein announced today that Erika Silva Adams will join the Tilton School community for the 2025-26 academic year as Director of Student Engagement in the Community Life Office and Head Coach of Girls Varsity Hockey. A 2025 inductee to the Beanpot Hall of Fame and current Assistant Coach at Brown University, Silva Adams brings top flight credentials to each of her new roles at Tilton School.
“When we talk about doing hard things well and going beyond what we thought possible at Tilton School, Erika is exactly the type of leader and mentor who will help our students reach the next level in community and competition,” says Krein. “In addition to her incredible hockey bonafides, she blends an entrepreneur’s awareness with her passion for working with young people that will further enhance our community life programming in a significant way.”
“Adding Erika behind the bench begins an exciting new chapter for Girls Varsity Hockey at Tilton School,” says Colleen Coyne, Dean of Afternoon & Athletic Programs. “Her accomplishments as a player and a coach, particularly her focus and expertise in developing complete student-athletes on and off the ice, will help us build off of recent progress and accomplishments and take the program to new heights.”
A four-year, four-sport athlete in high school, Silva Adams is a two-time Hall of Fame inductee at Providence Country Day (PCD). She went on to play her college hockey at Northeastern University where she set 11 different goaltending records while racking up 61 wins, 20 shutouts, and was named a first-team All-American following her senior season. Her career as a coach began after playing with the U.S. National Team in 2004 and in the Canadian National Women’s Hockey League from 2002-2004, when she was hired by Boston University as an assistant coach in the program’s inaugural season in 2005. Over the last twenty years, Silva Adams has had stops as the head coach at St. George’s School (RI) and as an assistant at Salve Regina College (RI) and Brown.
“My family and I are beyond excited to join the Tilton School community,” says Silva Adams. “Tilton has a wonderful reputation of high academic achievements and top-notch athletics. Head of School Krein’s vision for Tilton School and enthusiasm for Tilton’s students and faculty are unmatched — a team we can all get behind. I am looking forward to getting on the ice with the Girls Varsity Rams for the 2025-26 season.”
This January, she was honored as one of two inductees into the Women’s Beanpot Hall of Fame for her accomplishments in college and, specifically, for her brilliance during the annual tournament between Boston University, Boston College, Harvard University, and Northeastern University. Fittingly, she was honored during the first intermission of this year’s championship matchup between her alma mater and the school where she began her coaching career.
In addition to her work at the prep and collegiate hockey levels, Silva Adams also spent time abroad as a coach with the Singapore Men’s and Women’s National Ice Hockey Team and working as a volunteer at the American Embassy Commissary and Recreation Association in Jakarta, Indonesia. She’s also currently the founder and owner of Fueled Fitness RI, LLC in Portsmouth, RI.
Silva Adams is married to Greg Adams, who retired in 2023 from the U.S. Navy after 24 years of military service. They have two boys, Benjamin (15) and Noah (13).
