From the basketball court to the art studio, Tilton students embrace opportunities across every aspect of school life — and varsity basketball player Adrianna ’27 exemplifies that spirit.
This year, Adrianna has pushed her creative boundaries in Advanced Art Portfolio Review, where she continues to develop new techniques, deepen her passion for art, and earn recognition for her work. Pictured here is her latest self-portrait, Half Seen, But I’m Still Here, which earned Honorable Mention in the drawing category from the Scholastic Art & Writing Association. Adrianna stands among just 1,200 Scholastic visual arts award recipients in the state of New Hampshire. Her artwork will be on display at the Stockbridge Theatre in Derry, NH, from January 20 through February 8.
After joining Tilton midyear, Adrianna immediately began brainstorming ideas for her solo art exhibition scheduled for the spring. She explored the theme of “Girlhood,” creating small-scale sketches to test and refine her concepts. The theme resonated, inspiring her to build an entire collection around it.
Although Adrianna had limited experience with colored pencils, she embraced the challenge. She researched techniques, sought guidance from her teacher, and watched instructional videos to better understand the medium and strengthen her skills.
“In planning and executing artwork for a solo art exhibition, students gain skills in designing art compositions, producing work with high quality craftsmanship, and matting and framing artwork,” said art teacher Smith. Tilton students learn every aspect of preparing an exhibition, and the Tilton School Art Gallery offers a professional space to showcase their work.
Beyond the studio, Adrianna also competes as a member of the women’s varsity basketball team.
One of the great aspects of Tilton School is our commitment to helping students see themselves as more than just their sport,” Smith added. Students are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones and explore new interests, confident that the Tilton community will support them every step of the way. While balancing new challenges can feel daunting, faculty members work closely with students to provide guidance and flexibility, ensuring they reach their full potential. Accepting challenges is part of being a Ram.
Congratulations to Adrianna on this exciting achievement — we look forward to seeing her exhibition later this year!
