Planned Giving – Tilton School

Planned Giving

You can create a lasting legacy…

With a number of tax-efficient strategies while simultaneously helping Tilton School achieve its goals for current and future generations. Contact us, or your personal advisor, to learn more about the many opportunities available to you.

Bequests

A bequest costs nothing now, yet gives you the satisfaction of knowing you have provided for Tilton in the future. If you are considering adding us to your will or trust, here is some draft language that may be helpful to you and your attorney: “I give, devise, and bequeath (describe dollar amount, property to be given, or percentage of your residuary estate), to Tilton School, a not for profit, 501 (c) (3) organization, located at 30 School Street, Tilton, NH 03276, to be used by said organization to meet the immediate or future needs of the organization, as determined by the Board of Trustees of Tilton School.” Please contact us if you or your attorney needs assistance with this language.

If you have already included Tilton School in your estate plans, please let us know. We would like to thank you for your generosity and also make sure the purpose of your gift is fully understood by Tilton so we honor your philanthropic intent properly.

Tribute & Memorial Gifts

If you want to honor a friend or a loved one, consider making a gift to Tilton School in their honor. If you provide their contact information to us, we’ll gladly inform them that a gift has been made. “In Honor of” and “In Memory of” gifts can also be made online via our online giving form

If planning a funeral and considering us as a beneficiary for giving, here is suggested wording for use in an obituary: “In lieu of flowers, please make a gift in memory of (name here) to Tilton School online at www.tiltonschool.org or by mailing a check, with their name in the memo section, to Tilton School, 30 School Street, Tilton, NH 03276.”

“We are leaving our legacy via planned giving because we truly believe in Tilton's mission; we have witnessed first-hand the difference this incredible school makes. We are excited that we are supporting the long-term viability of Tilton School and helping students on the hill in perpetuity!”

– April and Dave McElhinny P’13

Real Estate & Life Estate Gifts

You may donate property or a residence, or a percentage of a current residence, to Tilton School while retaining the right for you and/or a spouse to live in the house for life, or until the property is sold. You receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction for your ultimate gift to us and effectively remove the property, or a portion of the property, from your estate. Furthermore, a gift in the form of a retained life estate does not prevent you from relocating at a later point.

You can also make a gift of real estate through a provision in your will or revocable trust agreement. Once Tilton School receives the property, it is generally sold and the proceeds are used according to the purpose(s) outlined in your bequest documents.

Life Insurance

Donors may name Tilton School as the beneficiary of their policy.

Retirement Plans

Donors can name Tilton School as the beneficiary in whole or in part, or as a contingent beneficiary of a qualified retirement plan (IRA’s, 401k’s, 403b’s, and more). Most retirement plans (other than Roth IRA’s) are subject to income taxes – and possibly estate taxes – if left to an individual beneficiary; however, a charity that is named as the beneficiary does not pay income or estate taxes on the distribution. Thus, the full value of what is distributed can be used by Tilton School, supporting the purpose you designate.
