Student Experience Block – Grade Level Programming – Tilton School

Student Experience Block – Grade Level Programming

Grade Level Programming (GLP) focuses on relevant and age-appropriate life skills for Tilton students to explore.  As students grow, change, and explore at Tilton, GLP gives them the confidence and skillset to navigate the world around them.

9th Grade

The 9th Grade GLP is dedicated to helping students successfully acclimate to Tilton School. It sets the foundation for self discovery and awareness, which students will continue to build upon throughout their time on campus. As students join the Tilton community, GLP serves as a safety net for getting accustomed to the prep school life. Our curriculum at this time centers around student support, focused guidance, and exploration of valuable skills.

Students will develop the tools and skills needed to design and embark on a more purposeful journey. Throughout their first year of GLP students will have the opportunity to navigate problem solving, explore design-thinking projects, and hone in on study skills needed for their future at Tilton. The program culminates with students writing a letter to the incoming ninth grade class to share advice, as well as a letter to their senior self they will receive upon graduation from Tilton School.

Tilton Students Welcoming Other Students

10th Grade

10th Grade GLP is devoted to exposing students to new experiences that challenge them to expand their own thinking. Students will learn how to strike a balance between effective collaboration and self-reliance through group projects and personal pursuits, along with providing them a safe space to explore new ideas in learning. 10th grade GLP will additionally bring students outside of the classroom and explore outdoor experiences. These classes will connect students with community members to get to know them on a more personal level, encouraging healthy exploration and connections across their community.

The program culminates with students presenting a “MeManifesto” in which they articulate what they have learned about themselves and the way they contribute to the community. Students will practice self-reflection as they express how they have grown, adapted, and changed over this time.

11th Grade

11th Grade GLP is dedicated to fostering greater independence and helping students gain a deeper understanding of their interests, values, and purpose. Throughout this time, students will begin contemplating their Legacy Projects which will take place during their final year at Tilton. In addition, students will envision their potential beyond campus by exploring career opportunities through a design thinking project and utilizing professional partnerships within their broader community.

The program culminates with students pitching their projects to a team of community members in order to showcase their individual strengths and collaborative efforts. Throughout the project, students will utilize off-campus partnerships, practice interviewing skills, and explore vital networking skills.

12th Grade/PG

12th Grade GLP operates towards preparing students for their transition from adolescence to adulthood. Students will develop their independent living skills in personal finance and lifestyle management, working to strengthen their ability to navigate and adapt to the complexities of life.

Students will take this time to produce and finalize their Legacy Project, an individualized project designed for students to improve their community before they depart Tilton at graduation. The program culminates with a student reflection on their competencies with these skills and areas for continued growth, and allows for students to reflect on their time at Tilton as they prepare for their next steps.
