Each year Tilton School honors some of its most deserving alumni by honoring them as the recipient of one of the school’s various awards. Descriptions of each of these awards can be found below – if you know of a deserving classmate, teammate or roommate from your days on the Hill, please read through the awards criteria and eligibility before making your recommendations.
Every year during Alumni Weekend Tilton School recognizes outstanding alumni during School Meeting on Saturday. The five award areas for consideration are: Alumnus of the Year, George L. Plimpton Award, John Charles Daley Award, the Artist Hall of Fame, and the Athletic Hall of Fame.
Please see the award descriptions below as well as our nomination form. If you have any questions, please contact the Alumni Office!
The Alumnus/a of the Year Award, created in 1966, must be given to an alumnus or a group of alumni.
This award is presented to an alumnus/a who has made an outstanding contribution to his/her alma mater. Such contribution can be that which has had an impact on the school within a relatively short time or perhaps a less dramatic but substantial impact over a long period of time.
The Athletic Hall of Fame, established in 1986, honors alumni or coaches who are recognized for their significant athletic achievements either at Tilton or in years following.
Criteria for Nomination: Graduation from Tilton at least five years ago or coached Tilton team(s) while a member of the Tilton School faculty.
Established in 2011, the Distinction in Humanities Award (formerly the Artist Hall of Fame) honors Tilton School alumni/ae who have made meaningful contributions to the arts and humanities—including visual, performing, and literary arts, as well as fields such as history, philosophy, languages, and culture. The award celebrates the impact of creative and intellectual pursuits and aims to inspire current students who aspire to shape the world through expression, reflection, and critical thought.
Named for George Lincoln Plimpton, Headmaster of Tilton School from 1896 to 1929, this award honors alumni whose outstanding achievements and contributions to society reflect the values and vision that guided Tilton through decades of growth. Since 1953, it has been the School’s highest recognition of alumni distinction beyond the Hill.
This award recognizes an alumnus/a or friend of Tilton whose enduring commitment and exceptional support mirror John Daly’s legacy. Through continuous, inspiring contributions in both word and deed, recipients of this award exemplify a deep devotion to the Tilton community, motivating others to reach beyond what seems possible.
